Who is playing Hercules in Marvel? What this Marvel about?

Who is playing Hercules in Marvel? Hercules actor Brett Goldstein recently revealed two unlikely ways his character Hercules could potentially beat Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previously in last year’s Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel Studios surprised audiences with the introduction of Goldstein’s Hercules. Goldstein appeared as the iconic figure in the movie’s post-credits scene where he vowed to kill Hemsworth’s Thor as a promise to his father Zeus (played by Russell Crowe).

The unexpected appearance of Goldstein means that an encounter between Hercules and Thor will likely happen in the future, which sparked a debate among fans about who would win the fight. Still, with Hercules having only a few seconds of screen time, the potential meeting of these two Marvel gods is all fans know so far about Hercules’s future.

Recently during an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Goldstein revealed the two unlikely ways his character Hercules could potentially beat the thunder god in the MCU. In anticipation of the two gods going head-to-head, the actor gave an unexpected response.

Who is playing Hercules in Marvel?

Hercules is portrayed by Brett Goldstein in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He made his debut in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) during the mid-credits sequence.

The comedy series Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ made Goldstein famous for his character Roy Kent, for which he was honored with two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Zeus is the father of the demigod Hercules. He is among the Marvel Universe’s most formidable and potent entities. He is an outstanding fighter and strategist as well.

Hercules’ exact function in the MCU is yet unknown, but he will undoubtedly play a significant part in the franchise’s development. Goldstein is a gifted actor who will undoubtedly bring this character to life in a way that is unforgettable. He is a character with a lot of potential.

Brett Goldstein Joked About How Powerful His Hercules Character Is

Initially, when asked if his character could beat Hemsworth’s Thor, the Ted Lasso star offered a humorous reply and joked about how strong and powerful Hercules is. The new MCU actor noted that Thor has enormous muscles, looks like a god, and is incredibly charming. Though the actor seemed somewhat puzzled as to what advantages his character, Hercules, would have in a fight against his rival, Goldstein stated that the fact that he has more body hair and is better at cursing could potentially help him defeat Thor.

Goldstein stated, “He’s a big boy isn’t he, with all humility, he’s a big boy. But does he have massive muscles? Yes, he does. Wait, hang on a second. Does he have incredible unbelievable charisma? Yes. Does he have the ability to look like a god? Yes… Body hair. Maybe that’s the way I beat Thor… Yeah, he’s not a swearer. He wouldn’t know what to do. It’d freak him out.”

Still, while the pair’s anticipated fight isn’t likely going down to body hair or swearing, it’s worth noting that in the comics, Hercules and Thor have similar powers. Both have super strength as their primary power, and Hercules is considered one of the strongest of the Olympian gods, who are equal in power to Asgardians. Hercules also has advanced regeneration abilities and is practically invulnerable. Of course, an official date for an epic clash between the pair remains to be determined.

Who is Hercules in Marvel Comics?

Marvel’s incarnation 0f Hercules is inspired by Greek mythology – just as Thor is inspired by Norse – so there are similarities between the character’s historical origin and his comic book update.

He is the son of the Olympian god Zeus (played in the MCU by Russell Crowe) and mortal Alcmena, meaning he is a demigod capable of incredible feats of strength and eternal life.

After maintaining a low profile for hundreds of years, Hercules began to step out of the shadows in the 20th century to covertly fight for the allies during World War II.

In early appearances, he was depicted as a rival to Thor, given that he is one of the very few characters in the Marvel Universe with a comparable level of strength.

However, the two soon became friends, with Hercules being a supporting character in several Thor stories as well as a member of super teams The Avengers, The Defenders and The Champions, among others.

In the comic books, Hercules is also able to match the strength of the Incredible Hulk, which led him to intervene during the World War Hulk storyline, when Bruce Banner’s angry alter-ego was wreaking havoc in New York City.

In the aftermath of that major event, Hercules formed an unlikely partnership with teen genius Amadeus Cho (whose mother, Dr Helen Cho, was played by Claudia Kim in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron – it’s all connected).

Who is Hercules actor Brett Goldstein?

Brett Goldstein has been working in the entertainment industry for more than a decade, with credits including Derek, Drifters, Uncle and Doctor Who, but his career kicked into high gear when he joined the cast of Apple TV+ sitcom Ted Lasso.

His performance in the series has been a favourite of fans and critics alike, earning Goldstein an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at last year’s ceremony.

As Ted Lasso is confirmed to be ending with its third season, Goldstein will soon have a bit more time on his hands, which could lead to further MCU appearances.

When could Hercules appear next in the MCU?

The most logical answer is in the as-yet-unconfirmed Thor 5, given Hercules’s strong comic book association with the God of Thunder and his introduction by Taika Waititi.

Speaking about Goldstein’s casting as Hercules, Waititi told Uproxx that producer Kevin Feige was the one to cast the Ted Lasso star.

“Kevin really wanted him to do it, and yeah, Brett’s amazing. He’s great,” the director told the publication.

Waititi made clear he is not sure where Hercules will be seen next.

“And I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop,” he added.

“Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself.”

Well, as Marvel Studios is currently dishing out Disney Plus shows hither and yon, that could also be an option if they want to establish the character as a major player moving forward.

We may find out more later this month, with Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently promising information on the studio’s future plans at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Perhaps Hercules could even have his own solo cinematic outing on the way,….
