When does The Marvels come out? The Marvels is an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to the film Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The film is directed by Nia DaCosta, who co-wrote the screenplay with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. It stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, alongside Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, Danvers, Rambeau, and Kamala team up after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.

Marvel Studios confirmed plans to make a sequel to Captain Marvel in July 2019. Development began in January 2020 with McDonnell hired after working on the television miniseries WandaVision (2021). Larson was set to return from the first film as Danvers, and DaCosta was hired to direct that August. In December, Parris was revealed to be reprising her role as Rambeau from WandaVision alongside Vellani returning as Kamala from Ms. Marvel.

Second unit filming began in mid-April 2021 in New Jersey, and the title—referring to the three characters and their similar abilities—was revealed in early May. Principal photography began in July 2021 and concluded by mid-May 2022, taking place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Longcross Studios in Surrey, England, as well as in Los Angeles and Tropea, Italy. Karasik’s involvement was revealed during post-production.

What If… ? Season 2 (Late December 2023)

The first animated series in the MCU will return for a second season in late 2023. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was revealed that this new season will feature heroes and villains from the MCU’s multiversal realities, including Captain Carter, Steve Rogers as Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor Ragnarok’s Hela, Young Star-Lord and Ego, The Scarlet Witch, Mandarin, and more. The preview also showed Thanos fighting Captain America from Infinity War.

The final part of the preview also was revealed to take place in the year 1602, which is surely a nod to Marvel 1602, a 2003 eight-issue miniseries penned by Neil Gaiman that follows Marvel superheroes that exist in the Elizabethan era, including Nick Fury, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, and more.

Season 2 was originally expected to be among the first MCU projects to hit in 2023, but the season doesn’t have a release date and reportedly has been pushed back to the end of 2023.

X-Men ’97 (Early 2024)

X-Men ’97 is a revival of the original X-Men: The Animated Series from the 1990s that will continue right where that storyline left off. The Wrap has also reported that many of the original voice actors from the first show will be returning to their characters, including Wolverine’s Cal Dodd, Rogue’s Lenore Zann, Beast’s George Buza, and more. In addition to familiar voices, Jennifer Hale, Ray Chase, and many more will join the cast. Beau DeMayo will serve as executive producer and head writer.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the press were treated to a first look at the series and saw many of the returning characters, including Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops. Magneto also made an appearance and said, “You’re looking at the new leader of the X-Men.” It was also revealed Cable, Bishop, Forge, Morph, Nightcrawler, and Sunspot would be returning as well.

On the villain front, the panel showed off various Sentinels, Mr. Sinister, White Queen, and Sebastian Shaw of the Hellfire Club.

Echo (January 2024)

Echo is an upcoming series that will star Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, who made her debut in Marvel’s Hawkeye. Echo is the adoptive daughter of Kingpin and has long been associated with Daredevil. She is a deaf Native American character who was created by David Mack and Joe Quesada and first appeared in Daredevil Vol. 2 #9 in 1999. Much like Taskmaster, Echo can copy the fighting style of her opponents and wound up joining the New Avengers as the first Ronin. Hawkeye has already taken on the Ronin namesake in Avengers: Endgame, so it will be interesting to see where they take Echo’s story.

But Reynolds dropped a real bombshell out of nowhere when he tweeted a teaser video for this currently untitled sequel. Not only is it hitting theaters in 2024, but Hugh Jackman is coming back to play Wolverine once again. It turns out 2017’s Logan won’t be Jackman’s final time unsheathing his claws after all.

Captain America: Brave New World (July 26, 2024)

The same day The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s final episode debuted, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a fourth Captain America movie was in the works with director Julius Onah and showrunner Malcolm Spellman co-writing the screenplay with TFATWS staff writer Dalan Musson.

Since then, it has been officially confirmed that Captain America: Brave New World (formerly subtitled New World Order) will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024, and will be the first solo film starring Anthony Mackie as a new take on the iconic hero.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (Fall 2024)

Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness was one of the most beloved parts of WandaVision, and she will be returning in her own spin-off series on Disney+. WandaVision’s Jac Schaefer will serve as executive producer and head writer.

The Marvels cast: Who’s in it?

Of course, Brie Larson returns as Captain Marvel herself. However, she will be joined by Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau who first appeared in WandaVision.

After being affected by Wanda’s powers, Monica Rambeau was teased to have some sort of cosmic abilities. This idea is likely to be explored further in the movie. The upcoming film will also introduce Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan into the greater MCU. After winning over the hearts of fans in her Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan is set to have a big role in The Marvels.

Other than these confirmed cast members, we’ve got the return of Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury with Captain Marvel.

We’ll also be seeing the MCU debut of Parasite star Park Seo-joon, who fans believe might be playing Yan, the Prince of Aladna – although this is yet to be confirmed. However, executive producer Mary Livanos told Entertainment Weekly in July that he will play an “ally to Carol.”

As for behind the camera, there are four writers behind the sequel’s script: WandaVision’s Megan McDonnell, the film’s director Nia DaCosta, Loki’s Elissa Karasik, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s Zeb Wells.
